Paintings of Women Tatting

Oklahoma artist Freda de Odis Flatt (right) presents her oil painting, "Delma Flatt Tatting," to Dr. Rick Wetherill, director of East Central University's Center of Continuing Education & Community Services. The painting is displayed in the center's main office.
Painting of a young lady tatting. Someone claims that this is French Impressionist Renior's painting but I have searched through the entire collection online and found nothing. Does anyone know who painted this?

Another Copyright Infringement

Italian craft magazine Creative is currently under fire from tatters all over the world. They will be publishing a number of Marilee Rockley's patterns in their upcoming No.18 issue without her or her publisher's permission. This is outright theft. It is also a concern I have when I was thinking of self publishing my patterns. You don't have to be famous for unscrupulous people to do this kind of thing to you.

Tatting unlike knitting and crochet is rather time consuming. The time and effort the designer put into each pattern is substantial. From developing idea to gathering information, sketching the design, writing out the pattern, tatting it, making changes and tatting it all over again, getting someone to help proof read and tat the pattern, more changes to make and test tat again. The process repeats until the designer is happy with the pattern. The next stage is to take photos. Editorial work needs to be done before the pattern is ready to face the world. From start to finish, it takes at least 3 days of intensive work before a small simple pattern can be published. My book took me more than 1 year and that was without anyone helping me to proof read and tat.

The parties concern are now looking into legal action against the magazine. Let's bear in mind the consequences before anyone decide to do similar things.

Bling Bling Card

This card is a mixture of pastel and bright colours. The butterfly is from the set of grand adhesive that has pastel and soothing colours. I use pastel yellow cardstock to bring out the brightness of the dp. Not only is the sentiment embossed, the do is glittered and the butterfly has rhinestones on it. What a bling bling card.

The Last Super In Tatting

Can you imagine this? Lucy Concistre spent 3 years making this enormous 6ft by 8ft master piece. It is made entirely using tatting. It's her version of The Last Supper, taken from a late 15th-century mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. It is one of the world's most famous paintings. This piece of work appeared in a 1951 article in McCall's Needlework Magazine. There was also an article about it in the February 1951 Catholic Home Messenger. Unfortunately this piece is not in the family's possession and they have been looking for it. Hope that whoever is in possession of this piece of artwork can donate it to a museum for display.

Inspiration, Action, Result

To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong - Joseph Chilton Pearce

When I was designing this card, I wanted to make something different from the norm. Most of the sentiments are either on tags or layered rectangles. I searched through all my punches and finally came across a new one that I bought a while ago. It was meant for making corner decorations. Initially I wondered how I could use it to decorate the sentiment. After staring at the punch and paper for sometime and turning the punch in all directions, an idea struck me. However, I wasn't sure if end product would turn out satisfactory. I look through my stash for the right piece of scrap and started fiddling around with the measurement. It didn't take me long to work out the right size of paper to cut. I punched 2 opposite corners of the paper and Viola! The effect was a surprise. There was no wastage and I didn't even have to trim the sentiment.

How often do you have an inspiration but just don't have the motivation or courage to try it? What is holding you back? In my case, the piece of scrap was the best colour match I could find and it was the only piece left. 1 mistake and it will mean having to wait till I am back from another procurement trip again. But if I don't try, that piece of scrap will be sitting there doing nothing. Furthermore, the idea from my inspiration will be left dangling in the air.

Inspiration is everywhere. In order to see the end results you need to put it into action. Without the action, all you have is just a thought.

New Designs

I did 2 new designs last week while do demonstration at VivoCity.
This little bunny measures only 3cm in height. A small little cutie with its head turned to the side. Will probably need a little more fine tuning before I will consider it as satisfactory.
This swan is also only 3cm in height. I was working on a swan design previously but a much bigger one and it didn't turn out satisfactory. This one is just nice.

Student's Work

Another bright sunny day without haze. Hope this trend continue all the way.

Here's another piece of Angela's work using size 10 Lizbeth thread. The end result is rather neat.

Kitty and Cupcakes

Big kitty with small little kitty by the side celebrating birthday. The dp used matches the image nicely. It has wordings all over so I don't see a need to add in anymore sentiments. So far the local cupcakes I have seen are either in white, black or brown wrappers, never seen a green one before.

Mar MAAD

There were 9 vendors at the Red Lobby that day. What a crowd. I almost don't have space for the class. MooTees was suppose to display an exhibit but I didn't see any, just racks and racks of t-shirts that they are selling.
Raudhah had a long day but that doesn't make her any less enthusiastic.
Jolin is enjoying every bit of it.
